Summer Camp Activity Specialist: Eco Arts
About the Position
City Growers seeks two Activity Specialist – one for our after school and summer camp program at PS 20 in Clinton Hill and one for our summer camp at PS 516 in Sunset Park. The Eco Arts Activity Specialist will facilitate hands-on art activities for groups of 15-17 elementary-aged students. The Activity Specialist will be responsible, in partnership with other staff, for cultivating and maintaining a supportive and stimulating program culture. Responsibilities include curriculum design, facilitation of activities, materials maintenance and upkeep, and maintaining positive relationships with and among children and colleagues.
We are seeking Activity Specialists who are passionate, interested in youth development, high energy, creative, easy going, and intentional and inclusive when working to build positive relationships with the young people we serve.
Designing and facilitating eco-arts curriculum
Maintaining positive relationships with and among students and colleagues
Creating and maintaining a safe space for children
Safely moving children from school to off-site camp locations for Urban Expeditions
Minimum 2 years of experience working with youth in a school or after school setting OR 2-3 years experience working in a summer camp
Previous experience in afterschool, summer, or enrichment youth program strongly preferred
Minimum 1 year experience facilitating eco-arts and movement activities with elementary age youth
Background in food, agriculture, STEM, and/or environmental science a plus
Strong communication and leadership skills
Reliable and punctual
Familiarity with geography of NYC and public transit system
Must be fingerprinted and undergo background check
Bilingual Spanish or Chinese preferred
Interest and experience promoting positive youth development and social and emotional growth
The PS 20 program’s Activity Specialist will work part time when the position commences. Hours will increase approaching July, when the Activity Specialist will transition into a full time position at our 6-week summer camp program in the same location.
The PS 20 program runs on the following days and times:
4/22/19-4/26/19 (Spring Break) 9:00am-5:30pm
4/29/19-6/26/19 (Monday-Thursday) 2:30-6:00pm
NO Program or School: 5/27/19, 6/4/19, 6/6/19, 6/11/19
Weekly after school staff meetings take place on Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 pm.
7/8/19-8/16/19 (Monday-Friday) 8:00am-4:00pm, with training and orientation on June 28th, and July 2nd and 3rd.
The PS 516 summer camp program will run 7/8/19-8/16/19, Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm, with training and orientation on June 28th, and July 2nd and 3rd.
Though we cannot guarantee employment beyond August 16, 2019, for the right candidate we will be seeking possibilities to extend employment.
